This year's monthly classic challenge....as selected by rough trade. APRIL.

Last year was the year of the classic swapsy. 12 cd's handpicked by the big man from his office wall of sound.

This year I was very fortunate to have a particularly fine birthday present from the big one and the boy waitey. 6 months of the Rough Trade album of the month cd's. For those who don't know, this is a carefully selected new release that is sent out every month. It's not known what it'll be until it arrives through your door and comes with notes written by the artist and usually an extra cd of bonus material. And in the case of this month's cd (my first since I was given the present), the cd hasn't actually been released in the shops yet.

So, for the next 6 months this will be the monthly 'classic' blog post.

This month's cd..

'It's album time' by Todd Terje.

Never heard of this bloke. I've got to admit, the cd sleeve put me off a little when i first saw it. But what a classic this turned out to be! This has sustained my interest through non-stop plays through the weekend since it pitched up on friday. Not a million miles away from the 'don't be queasy bout cheesy' seam of dance that daft punk mined so well last year. A really cohesive listen, dance for people who don't know too much about dance. I would say the sleeve really doesn't fit with the content of the cd. [Track 11 - 'Oh Joy', I think, is a shoo-in for this year's best tracks of the year list.]

Score; 9 out of 10.

This will be hard to match for the next 5 cds.

Thanks again for the gift subscription, boys. (got to be careful to put a comma in that last sentence lest people think i was given gift subscription boys for my birthday).

something i liked this week

Follow this link through to an interview between Conor Oberst and Lauren Laverne on 6music. There's a link from there to another interview she did with Jermaine from the flight of the conchords.

Enjoyed listening to these things this week.
