Graffiti by reservoirs, an occasional series....

The first ever post on this blog was about this photo...

...taken at a reservoir in the Peak District.

Well [drum roll] here is post number two of a very occasional series...

Taken by Penygarreg reservoir in the Elan Valley. Can't make out too much of this bad boy. Is that '1973' in the mix there mid-right? I think it might just be. Will keep my eyes peeled for further examples. Don't hold your breath...

A bit of heather on the mean streets/footpaths of LD6...

A trip to Rhayader and the Elan Valley Sept 2011

Decided to go at 2pm, booked a hotel at 3pm, arrived there 5pm. Good times. [and not at all like the lyrics to a Craig David song]

The current kit

This was our first digital camera, that we bought prior to the birth of our son back in 2005. Living in NZ meant we needed to enter the world of digital so that we could email pictures back home. Not really that fabulous but it did the job for us, and it has a viewfinder so you don't have to do any 'zombie photographer' poses. Don't really use this one much, although we did take it to Green Man as we didn't mind too much about it getting wet, and the battery lasts for ages.

Next up is my current mobile and spontaneous photo opportunity camera. To be fair, the Nokia X6 is a bit of a dog but it was less than half the monthly rate of an iphone and it has web-browsing and email etc which is what I was looking for when I got it. The camera is actually pretty good in daylight but becomes as fuzzy as a busby hat with a migraine when taking shots indoors or in the evening. Several of the photos it has taken have been up on the blog and it isn't always that obvious (to my eyes) that they were taken on a camera phone. The shots of the Canon (below) were taken on the mobile.

Finally, the big daddy. A Canon EOS 40d that I picked up from Al a while back. To be fair I don't know half of what this camera can do and it isn't the best to have out and about as it take so long to unpack ("hang on, hang on, stay in that spontaneous pose, wait comeback" etc etc). The main reason I like it though, is that if you have a bit of time there's plenty you can tinker with and shooting random ephemera including the 'what came in the post this morning' type blog posts is a pleasant enough way to pass the time and try to get some 'shallow depth of field' type malarkey going on (I'm not even sure this is the right term). So hopefully the blog photos will improve as I get to know more about this camera and what an F stop might be. [a full stop? No? What?]

Ten of the best gigs I've been to (in no particular order)..

Bright Eyes at Birmingham Institute 8/7/11 [setlist]
Eels at St. James Theatre, Auckland 23/10/05 [this article says it was the last night of the tour, I didn't realise that till now]
R.E.M. at Milton Keynes Bowl 30/7/95 [setlist] (this has turned up on quite a lot of bootlegs, it was broadcast on Radio 1)
Suede at Leicester De Montfort Hall (saw them twice there, the Dog Man Star tour was the better one. Can't for the life of me recall or google the date, i think it was December 1994)
Elbow at Birmingham NIA 22/3/11 [here is a video from my phone and here's another one, apologies for being one of those people that do this sort of thing- can i plead the alcohol intoxication excuse?]
Portishead at Glastonbury Festival 26/6/98 [una clip de youtube]
Muse at St. James Theatre, Auckland 14/9/04 [fansite details about the gig]
Radiohead at Milton Keynes Bowl 30/7/95 (supporting R.E.M.)
Mogwai at Reading Festival 2001 [a blog about it]
Pulp at Birmingham NEC 22/2/96 [setlist]

This was just an off the top of my head list. It would probably be different if I did it again tomorrow. I'll write more about each of them at some point.
