the september 'classic'

Gave; 'Free All Angels' by Ash.
Received; 'Since I Left You
' by The Avalanches.

Back on track with the schedule...actually getting this out before the end of the month.

Another good cd. Not quite what I expected having only heard the singles. More of a dancey affair when listened to as a whole compared to the singles, which had led me to think this would be a samply mixture. I bought a dj yoda cd once, which riffed on lots of eighties theme tunes and snippets. Problem I had with it was that it was just too much, too many ideas for you to be able to relax and actually enjoy it. This is a smoother listen although it reminded me of the first daft punk cd that featured in the classic list a few months back. Something that's been put together with a view to it being played at a party where people are shuffling about in some chap's kitchen drinking red stripe lager. This is not a criticism.

I can imagine this going down well in student digs back in the day.

Not quite knocking Eno and Tribe from their perch but keeping pace just behind the classic league leaders.

A mark? ..........7/10

fuelling the arcade fire

Have you heard 'reflektor', the new arcade fire tune?

I've been enjoying giving it a spin, digitally speaking. LCD soundsystem stylings with bowie on backing vocals. What's not to like?

The art video project is great too. Have you seen that? It's shot in Mali and it syncs with your smart phone so you can adjust what happens in the video by waving your phone around. It also puts images of you sat in front of your computer into the video itself. Strange fare, but great effort by all involved.

Good hyping up from Arcade Fire in advance of their new cd. Stone Roses style grafitti of the artwork in cities around the world, countdown clocks on the website and then whizz bang promo video too. And even better, the hype is justified by a great tune. That old school flicker of excitement about an upoming musical release is upon me again.

The arty video smartphone thing is at the end of this link.

"flat white for tim!"................."fuck off" for starbucks!

Oh man that wound me up today. Electricity cuts in the town centre meant that my search for a lunchtime coffee sent me into s^@£bucks. What name is it please? WHAT NAME IS IT PLEASE? What...name.....is......it........please.

Forced corporate get-to-know-the-client policy bullshit. Forced personalised caffeine based refreshment experience.

Aprons and espressos
Powercuts and queues
Who is this coffee for?
Harold fucking Shipman.

the august 'classic'

Gave; 'Cassadega' by Bright Eyes.
Received; 'People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm
' by A Tribe Called Quest.

Oh come on, two days after the end of August ain't too bad, right?

A really good cd this. One of the best of the year, pushing mr. eno and his pal close in the top of the classic swap list.

Lot's to keep your head engaged and rhythms to inspire some cross-kitchen bounces.

I realise that my 'classics' write ups are getting shorter and shorter. It's partly because I have been leaving it later and later to do them, but also because i cringe a bit when i read back my attempts to describe and critique music in this way. Writing isn't my bag.

Three more classics to go. The end is in sight!

A mark for the tribe? ..........8.5/10. And you can take that to the bank.
