Bit of Jools for a friday

More Saints memorabilia.

One season I took it upon myself to collect all the posters that were in the match day programmes. With outstanding geekery I sent them in to the club and asked if they could get the players to sign them. Fair do's they duly sent them back and for a long old while they were up on my bedroom wall.  Here are a couple of youngsters who went on to have fairly decent careers.....

Saints odds and ends.

Just been going through some old stuff I recently bought up from home. Look at this! Two quid to get into a game against Arsenal in what was the equivalent of the Premier League. It is now £14 just to get in to see Hereford. This game would have been about two years after I first went. Getting on for the years in the early nineties when I used to go to every home game (and at two quid a game that was easier then than it is now). A Boxing Day fixture, I've just noticed. Let me turn to Google to see how we got on that day........

A one nil win! Nice one. I was stood in the lower of the two terraces that the camera cuts to after the Saints' goal.

This was the end of the ground where I stood, on the Milton Terrace. The people I used to go with had a parking permit to park in the school opposite the Saints shop, from where it was a short walk along Milton Road to the turnstiles. Happy memories.

One Man, Two Guvnors at Birmingham Alexandra Theatre

We went along to see this up in Brum the other day. Highly recommend it. Very very funny. I think its going to be in London in the near future.

Probably best described by this review, which is what made me want to go and see it. The first act in particular is first rate. Lots of physical comedy. The fella from Gavin and Stacey is in it and really did a great job. There's a great gag right at the end of the first act, but to explain it would be to spoil the experience for anyone that hasn't seen it yet.

Here's the official link for the play. The video doesn't quite do it justice.

More CD Packaging blah..

Here's some more examples of some cd's that follow THE RULES

First up is a recent purchase, Brett Anderson's recent cd. 9.99 English pounds, and sent along with a signed bit of artwork. Not too bad on the music front too. Certainly better than the last Suede cd.

Second, Tanya Donelly from Belly.

Lastly here are a couple of cd's from a king of THE RULES (although points off for plastic case on the first cd, below). His second cd (above)came in various limited edition print runs and you could chose the colour. Fella got game. S'all i'm saying.

His latest cd , out in November is also paying good attention to THE RULES. Good work Dan. Looking forward to it.

Buying music. Packaging.

The good the bad and the ugly.

'Plastic teeth' grief

'Splintered corner'

'Unable to get booklet out' trauma

THESE ARE BAD THINGS

Cheeky Villagers. Nearly had me fooled with your cardboard cover.

This is better. The land of the reassuring cardboard sleeve.

Explosions in the Sky. With your crazy fold out house design you are really spoiling us.

Personalized inscribing for CD's bought from the artist's website. It's a touch, Alessi's Ark. Good work.

Extra special super duper editions that cost north of 30 quid? Not yet convinced. Any packaging that makes you not want to play the actual music for fear of depreciating the value is maybe going too far.

Music world. You have been told.
  1. Cardboard sleeves.
  2. Sign it.
  3. Don't go too far with your boxes, newspapers and collectable art cards.
