The current kit

This was our first digital camera, that we bought prior to the birth of our son back in 2005. Living in NZ meant we needed to enter the world of digital so that we could email pictures back home. Not really that fabulous but it did the job for us, and it has a viewfinder so you don't have to do any 'zombie photographer' poses. Don't really use this one much, although we did take it to Green Man as we didn't mind too much about it getting wet, and the battery lasts for ages.

Next up is my current mobile and spontaneous photo opportunity camera. To be fair, the Nokia X6 is a bit of a dog but it was less than half the monthly rate of an iphone and it has web-browsing and email etc which is what I was looking for when I got it. The camera is actually pretty good in daylight but becomes as fuzzy as a busby hat with a migraine when taking shots indoors or in the evening. Several of the photos it has taken have been up on the blog and it isn't always that obvious (to my eyes) that they were taken on a camera phone. The shots of the Canon (below) were taken on the mobile.

Finally, the big daddy. A Canon EOS 40d that I picked up from Al a while back. To be fair I don't know half of what this camera can do and it isn't the best to have out and about as it take so long to unpack ("hang on, hang on, stay in that spontaneous pose, wait comeback" etc etc). The main reason I like it though, is that if you have a bit of time there's plenty you can tinker with and shooting random ephemera including the 'what came in the post this morning' type blog posts is a pleasant enough way to pass the time and try to get some 'shallow depth of field' type malarkey going on (I'm not even sure this is the right term). So hopefully the blog photos will improve as I get to know more about this camera and what an F stop might be. [a full stop? No? What?]
