Southampton 4 - 1 Norwich 1989/90

Just finished Le Tissier's autobiography, it reminded me of this game. Skip to 1.00 mins into the clip and enjoy. I was a 14yr old behind the goal where the hat-trick was scored. Very clear memories of this game and the delirium it caused in the crowd. Inspirational.

*ducks and waits for witty, clever and scathing appraisal of my clear lack of manliness and understanding of 'the beautiful game'* Bah!

  2. No not scathing! Its one of those things that can't really be explained. This fella (Le Tissier) was by common consent (and his own admission) a pretty lazy, overweight chap. He clearly had an amazing talent and despite the offers from several bigger clubs with offers of huge salaries he chose to stay with one club the whole time (his highest salary at southampton was around 4 grand a week (not small change I know) but this was at the time when players at bigger clubs were getting in the region of 40-50k per week, something he turned down). He was a bit of a folk hero anyway. I completely agree that football today has much fewer of these types of characters, and Sky et al have corpse humped the soul out of the game. You are right in many ways about football being unappealing these days. But on Mr. Le Tissier you are wrong! Also, give the Elbow another listen, it isn't as bad as you think...7 out of 10 i reckon...the previous was 8/10. thoughts?

  3. Very good reply LT- can't fault a fellow for a passion like that. I enjoy a bit of basketball but it just seems so much more immediate and rewarding. I will cogitate further upon this issue. (Maybe it is just my dislike of competitiveness in general that prevents me from embracing this sporting life?)
As for the Elbow LP - You know - i so wanted to like it but is still is 60/40 split most. Still, their patchy is another band's stella.
See you for cawfee and a mooch soon.
