the may 'classic'

Gave; 'About a Boy [OST]' by Badly Drawn Boy.
Received; 'The Optimist LP
' by Turin Brakes.

This is a cd that is set up to be 'me'. Folky indie from the early 2000s. An interesting selection from the big man. I was once recommended this cd by the mentor on my last student nurse placement before i qualified. She then went on to be my preceptor, and a friend. A colleague and a friend you say? No I should say she is a friend, but explain that she became a friend through being a colleague. That she is a friend is a given. 'How do i know her, though?' I knew her through her being a colleague. Ah, I see.

Anyway, similar to the big man, this 'colleague' was someone who i respected a lot for their nursing chops. Good communication skills and calm under pressure. I don't know if the readers of this will have similar experience in their own field of employment, but in nursing I find it's all about getting inspired and educated by those around you. You learn nothing at college, everything from the people and clients you work with. Those colleagues again, huh.

Also, I was once introduced to a wife of a friend of a friend who had just been to see a Turin Breaks show a year or two ago. I think they were doing one of those 'play our famous cd in concert' nostalgia shows. The woman was quite drunk i think, and i think she thought i was a big fan of Turin Breaks. She talked a fair bit about them. I nodded.

I like the music, I find the singer's voice a few shades too over-earnest. I like the memories and the colleague connection.

A mark out of ten would have to be 6.
